Liam Payne reveals what he and 'harsh' Cheryl clash over
Couple first met when he auditioned for her on the X Factor.
Liam Payne first met his girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy, 34, in 2009 when he auditioned for her as a teenager on The X Factor, but eight years on, he is still nervous about sharing his solo material with her.
Speaking to Darryl Morris at Free Radio Live, the former One Direction star− who shot to fame alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan− said that his other half can be a tough critic.
"I was a little bit nervous playing my music to Cheryl for the first time. She's a judge, she still judges," he said.
"She's quite critical so I mean, she really likes it but we have odd tastes, we have different tastes in stuff so it depends."
The former Girls Aloud singer's first two albums went straight to number one. However, a third effort, A Million Lights in 2012 only reached number two while her fourth – Only Human in 2014 – stalled at number 7.
Payne, 24, has spent much of 2017 flying back and forth to the US working on solo material. But not everything she has heard has gone down well with her.
"I just love music in general so if I hear something and I say 'I love it I love it' and she's like 'no' so I have to listen," Payne added. "Sometimes she can be wrong but yeah she's quite a harsh judge. It comes from her X Factor days."
The couple, who went public with their romance in May 2016, welcomed their son Bear in March this year. Payne recently told Entertainment Tonight Canada that his little baby boy could follow in his and partner Tweedy's footsteps by embarking on a musical career. "He loves being sang [sic] to. That's what makes him happy and what makes him laugh, so maybe there's a bit of music in him, you know," he said.
