Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals why he hasn't signed many Spanish players

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on the golden generation of Spain and insists that he has a lot of players he would have loved to manage over the course of his managerial career. He has reserved praise for Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets and his quality while also talking about a few Spanish players he would love to have in his current Liverpool team.

The current Reds team has only one Spaniard in the form of Alberto Moreno, who is used sparingly, with James Milner currently occupying the position at left-back. Klopp admitted he never had enough money to buy the best Spanish players currently plying their trade while at Borussia Dortmund. Gonzalo Castro was the only player who could make the grade in their extremely stringent transfer policy but he would be willing to bring in more Spaniards if they offer good value.

When asked if he likes Spanish players, Klopp told MARCA, "A lot. What football lover did not enjoy them? And some of them are still at a good age. Busquets is only 28 years old, right? What a player! And seems to have been playing 16 years in that position ... Wonderful players those of that team [Barcelona]."

"Toni Kroos is an exceptional footballer, a genius. He is so subtle on the ball ... At Real he is very important. I like him very much. Knows what to do with the ball always," he added, when asked about current Spanish players he likes best.

"As I passed through Germany, I admired Thiago Alcántara, for example. This year is coming out. And what about David Silva?

"There are others ... Pedro is playing well ... But yes, it is a coincidence that I have not addressed many Spaniards. In Dortmund we did not have money to buy them. There was Gonzalo Castro, but he is half Spanish only. A fantastic player, by the way," he continued.

The Reds are currently fighting for a place in the top four, having played 34 games, and are currently in third spot. They are a point above Manchester City, but have played a game more. The Reds finished eighth last season, but with Arsenal and Manchester United, still having games in hand, it could go down to the wire.
