Liverpool Target Double Swoop in Signing Adam Lallana and Ashley Cole - Report
Liverpool are considering a move in signing Southampton star Adam Lallana and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, according to the Metro.
The report claims the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing the England international to Anfield as the Northern Irishman wants to seal the deal before the World Cup. The Merseyside club have already made a bid of £20m for Lallana's signature.
The Anfield club have enjoyed a great run in the league this season, which has seen them feature in the group stages of the Champions League. Liverpool are aware that they need to strengthen their squad in order to improve their depth.
The Merseyside outfit are looking to support their manager as Rodgers is looking to bring in six new faces to the club in the coming transfer window to bolster squad depth.
Manchester United are believed to be in the race in signing the talented midfielder as they are also interested in acquiring the services of the England international. However, Liverpool remain confident they can beat their arch rivals in landing the Southampton man.
The 25-year-old Saints star has featured in all league games this season, scoring nine goals and managing six assists in the process. The former Swansea boss expressed his admiration for Lallana after his brilliant run in this campaign.
"I saw the reports. But I would never, ever mention another player at another club. Adam is a terrific young talent but it's purely speculation and, for us, there is always speculation about top young players," Rodgers explained.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also interested in signing Lallana's compatriot Cole in the summer. The left-back's contract at Stamford Bridge runs down at the end of the season and he will be a free agent when the transfer window opens.
Rodgers is looking to hand a one-year contract for the former Arsenal full-back. The Metro claims the Reds will face competition from Real Madrid and AS Monaco for Cole's signature.
Lallana and Cole would be hoping to make it to Roy Hodgson's squad to board the plane to Brazil for the World Cup. The England squad for the summer event will be announced on 12 May.
