Lumia 640 and 640 XL: Power-saving tips to improve battery life
Microsoft's large-screen affordable Lumia models – Lumia 640 and 640 XL – come with bigger batteries that can last the whole day. Microsoft promises an impressive talk time over 2G and 3G, better music and video playback, as well as browsing timings. But if you want to stretch the interval between the charges, check out the following tips and tricks to conserve battery life.
Charge your Lumia properly
Ensure that you have charged the battery of your Lumia phone properly and make it a point to charge fully at the start of the day or overnight. This will keep the battery of the phone in a tip-top condition.
Turn on battery saver
To help you save battery life in your Lumia 640, Microsoft has added a great feature called Battery Saver, which can be set to automatically save power when the battery is low. The feature automatically turns on when the battery is low. Head over to the App list to get the Battery Saver feature.
Close background apps
Close down the apps that are running in the background, when not in use. Just hold the back key and tap the X mark in the right-hand corner of the app you want to close. It is important to note that some apps might run in the background unnecessarily. Tap the Battery Saver mode and then swipe to usage. Then tap the app you want to stop it from running.
Reduce screen brightness
Reduce the screen brightness of the Lumia phones for the battery to last longer. To do so, go to start screen, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap All Settings>> Brightness. Note that automatically adjust should be switched off. Then switch level to low and turn automatically adjust on.
Double-tap to wake up feature
Use double-tap to wake up feature on your Lumia phone, only when it is needed. To switch this feature off, go to start screen, then swiped down from the top of the screen, tap All Settings>> switch wake up to off.
Glance screen for short time
Another tip to save battery on 640/640 XL is to keep the glance screen for a shorter period of time. For this, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap All Settings>> Glance screen and switch Glance screen to peek.
Pull email less frequently
If you don't want your phone pulling in email frequently, lessen frequency to save power. Go to Settings>> Email+Account and select your email account. You should see an option called Download New Content, which you can tweak to extend the duration between email downloads.
Disable features not in use
To preserve the battery life, consider switching off location-based services. Go to the start screen, tap Settings>> Applications>> People and switch Use My Location tab to Off. You can also turn off features such as Bluetooth and NFC. Do the same for Wi-Fi when not in use. On the start screen, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap All Settings>> Wi-Fi and disable WiFi networking.
