Make Me: Britney Spears' marks triumphant comeback with G-Eazy collaboration
Pop superstar dethrones Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling! on iTunes
Following months of delays and rumours about titles, Britney Spears has finally made her comeback releasing her new single Make Me, featuring G-Eazy, on Apple Music today (July 15).
Back in April, the 34 year old announced the single, then named Make Me (Oooh), alongside a new album, was set to be released on 20 May. Despite the delay that ensued, she promised fans that the song would be "big", with G-Eazy reaffirming this with: "It'll sound great on radio."
The r'n'b-inspired single sways from Spears' typical light-hearted pop, a refreshing change for many fans that will hopefully lead to a more positive reaction than that for her last album.
Her ninth album is due later this year and is her comeback following previous album Britney Jean in 2013 which received mixed reviews from critics and became Spears' lowest-peaking and lowest-selling record in the US.
As well as this, the new single serves as the soundtrack for her 20th fragrance Private Show and has been followed by a racy trailer in which she shows off her incredible figure. Spears took to Twitter to celebrate after the song climbed straight to the top of the iTunes charts, dethroning Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling! She told her 46.4m followers: "This is an incredible feeling. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!"
Having had worldwide hits including Toxic, Womanizer, Oops!...I Did It Again and Hit Me Baby One More Time, the new album will surely be destined for success, with the RIAA listing her as the eighth top-selling female artist in the US, with 34 million albums worldwide and more than 100 million singles.
