Manchester United Set to Splurge £80m to Land Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo
Manchester United are reportedly set to spend £80m to land Real Madrid's Angel Di Maria, Sporting Lisbon's Marcos Rojo and Ajax's Daley Blind.
According to the Daily Mail, Louis van Gaal is targeting the Premier League title and has earmarked the above mentioned trio as the signings that will help him achieve his goal.
The Old Trafford club have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window, and with just over 15 days to go, the Red Devils boss is looking to step it up and add to his signings of Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and teenage goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic.
United have been linked to winger Di Maria all through the summer, and reports suggested that they had made a bid of £55m to bring the player to Old Trafford.
It is now believed that Di Maria's deal is close as United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is supposed to have travelled to Wales to meet with the player and the club to negotiate the transfer.
In another clear indication that a move may be imminent, the player was left out of the starting line-up and even failed to make a substitute appearance despite being on the bench during Real's 2-0 win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup match held at the Cardiff City stadium.
Blind on the other hand, has admitted that it will be hard to turn down offers from big clubs such as United and Barcelona, and also admitted that he will consider his options if a concrete offer arrives.
Van Gaal believes he has made a breakthrough and is confident of landing the Ajax defender, who is valued at £20m by the Eredivisie club.
Even manager Frank De Boer is open to his move and has admitted that it will be impossible to say no if one of the clubs make a big offer for the player.
"If a club comes along with a lot of money it is almost impossible to say no. But we won't let him go for free that is for sure. It is important for the player and the club that there is no tension or that it happens at the last minute," De Boer said, as quoted in the Guardian.
Another player that is on the the Red Devils boss' radar is Sporting centre-back Rojo, who played at left back for Argentina at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Reports claim that the Argentine defender has submitted a transfer request and refused to train with the club in order to force through a move to Old Trafford.
