Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the first match of the 2015/16 Premier League season at Old Trafford on Saturday, 8 August.

Where to watch live

Kick-off is set for 12.45pm BST. Live coverage will be available on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultra HD. Radio commentary of the game will be available on BBC Radio 5 Live. Catch the highlights of the match on Match of the Day on BBC Radio One and BBC Radio One HD at 10.20pm BST.

Overview

After a wait of nearly three months and the completion of pre-season friendly fixtures, the race to win the Premier League title will commence on 8 August. It will be United who will host the north London club in the first match of the season.

United suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Swansea City in the opening match of the last season and Louis van Gaal will be hoping that he side win the season opener and seal three points.

The former Barcelona manager has already confirmed David de Gea will not feature in the fixture. The Dutchman said the goalkeeper is not in the right frame of mind as he has been constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid.

On the other hand, De Gea's Tottenham counterpart Hugo Lloris has still not recovered from the wrist injury he picked up early this summer. Mauricio Pochettino will be with one recognised striker Harry Kane for the clash against United.

The worrying factor for the former Southampton boss is they played AC Milan in the Audi Cup, which is a pre-season friendly fixture on 5 August, just three days before they face United.

What managers say

Louis van Gaal: "We have no injuries. It's unbelievable! But it's not possible for Rojo to be match fit as he was the last player to come back. Schweinsteiger came also at the last moment out of his holidays so I don't think he is fit enough. We have to build the fitness he needs."

Mauricio Pochettino: "Hugo is a Tottenham player, he is the Tottenham captain and he will be a Tottenham player and I don't see that changing. I don't even think we need to discuss that possibility and I mean that sincerely."
