Mariah Carey 'never thought' of divorcing Nick Cannon; talks about the need of prenup with James Packer
Carey shares 5-year-old twin children with Cannon.
A big wedding might be on the charts for Mariah Carey and her billionaire fiancé James Packer later this year; but before the We Belong Together singer says 'I do', she has a lot to reveal about her previous marriage to rapper Nick Cannon. During a recent interview with the Complex magazine, Carey went candid as she revealed that she 'never thought' of divorcing Cannon.
"I never thought I would have babies with someone and then get divorced. Like, 'Oh, great job. Repeat your past," the 46-year-old songstress told the magazine about splitting from the America's Got Talent host.
Carey spilt from Cannon in 2015 and shares twin children – 5-year-old Moroccan and Monroe – with the singer.
Shedding further light on her divorce and its impact on her twins, the Bye Bye hitmaker said, "But life happens. And it was supposed to happen. It's fine. For them, I wish it hadn't happened that way. For me, it was. ... [singing Johnny Mathis and Deniece Williams' 'Too Much, Too Little, Too Late'] Guess it's over. Call it a day."
Fortunately for the pop diva, who will be gracing the August/September issue of the magazine, she has found love again in Packer.
The 48-year-old Australian businessman proposed Carey in January, and if rumours are to be believed, the couple might tie the knot soon. However, this doesn't remove the songstress from the reality as she opens up about signing a prenup agreement with her to-be-husband.
"We would like for it not to be a big thing, but the reality is it has to be," she spoke of their separate finances. "Because there're things that are specifically mine, and he's got huge friggin' conglomerate stuff, and I'm not looking to take that from him. So it has to be dealt with."
In Packer, the singer has not only found a loving fiancé, but also a fan of her music. According to the report, Carey's 1993 hit number Hero is on Packer's current favourite list. "Actually, I think if he didn't like my music, then how would I be able to handle him being around when all I'm doing is creating new stuff, doing whatever? It's cool," the singer said about Packer's love for her music.
