Allies of Donald Trump have put Meghan Markle on blast following the news that she and her husband, Prince Harry, would be returning to the UK.

Reports surfaced that claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were leaving the US because of their dislike of the current president. Media reports have noted that the couple 'have made no secret of their disillusionment with the current White House'. This fueled mocking responses from conservative personalities on X.

Katie Miller, wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, replied to People's post on the platform, 'They are moving back to Britain because they don't like President Trump.'

Miller also made unsubstantiated claims that Meghan 'always just wanted to be a celebrity' and that the couple was 'broke.'

The Sussexes' Troubles With Right-Wing America

Many other MAGA allies weighed in on the couple's return to the UK. Conservative personality Megyn Kelly commented, 'We've done our time here in America my dear friend!' on right-wing commentator Dan Wootton's post about 'Megxit' – what the internet calls the Sussexes' departure from the UK – being 'reversed'.

While Miller's insults weren't based on evidence, the claims that Harry and Meghan dislike Donald Trump aren't unfounded. Trump claimed in January that NATO allies 'stayed a little back' during the war in Afghanistan. This prompted Harry, who had been deployed in Afghanistan twice, fired back at the president.

'I served there. I made lifelong friends there. And I lost friends there,' Harry responded. 'Every allied nation was obliged to stand with the United States ... in pursuit of our shared security'.

Trump had also told royal biographer Robert Hardman this May, 'Boy, what she's [Meghan] done to that guy [Harry]'.

In fact, Trump's problems with the Sussexes mostly centered on Meghan. In February 2025, when Prince Harry got calls for his US visa to be revoked after he admitted to illegal drug use in his memoir, Spare, Trump refused to deport him.

'I don't want to do that. I'll leave him alone.' The president said. 'He's got enough problems with his wife. She's terrible.'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Return Plans

Much speculation regarding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's reasons for returning to the UK have been circulating following the announcement. While reports indicated that the US' current political landscape may have played a role, some guessed that King Charles III's health was also another reason. The King had been diagnosed with cancer in February 2024, and recent reports indicated that he was delighted to hear that they would have more opportunities to see Harry's family after receiving news of their return.

The Sussexes' two children have also been enrolled in a school in Britain following reports of the family's 'extended stay'. While there is no indication of whether the move would be permanent, the family will retain their residence in California as well as their vacation home in Portugal.

However, it has been made clear that Prince Harry's visits to the rest of the royal family would be made on a personal and private basis. The King is said that there will be 'no alteration' to Harry or Meghan's status as non-working members of the royal family.
