Mel B offering chunk of her fortune to settle nasty divorce with Stephen Belafonte – report
The singer accused her estranged husband of physical abuse and obtained a restraining order against him.
It looks like Mel B wants to settle her divorce with Stephen Belafonte privately before it gets uglier. In a bid to stop her estranged husband from dragging their legal battle into the limelight further, the Spice Girl decided to give him a large chunk of her fortune.
New reports suggest the English songstress is set to offer Belafonte a whooping sum of £5m ($6.1m) and a private island in Virginia in order to settle their nasty divorce battle. However, the settlement offer is conditional to him agreeing to a gagging order.
"Mel wants it done and dusted as quickly as possible to prevent any more harm being done to her kids," a source told Daily Star shedding light on the new development.
The US retreat that the singer is offering to her ex was the one she had splurged on Belafonte's birthday in 2014 — paying £1m at the time.
The couple have rarely visited the place since then. The newspaper source claims, "[Mel B] will give him £5m plus that bloody white elephant of an island which was a total waste of money."
But this may be below her film producing ex's expectations, who has allegedly demanded £10m off Mel's estimated £48m fortune.
"He wanted double that but he'll take what's being offered because if he gets into a fight with her then her pockets are much deeper than his," the source added.
The 41-year-old and her estranged husband, however, have more than one problem to resolve amid their ongoing divorce. Apart from clashes over monetary demands, they are even fighting for the custody of their five-year-old daughter Madison, says a report.
Despite giving her nod to shared parental custody earlier, it has now emerged that Mel B wants sole custody of her daughter from their nearly 10-year-old marriage. In the wake of this new update, Belafonte insists on letting the court decide the matter for the two.
"They are the only things that matter to me," he told The Sunday Mirror. "It is in the hands of my lawyers, my kids are the only thing that matter to me."
The songstress obtained a restraining order against her film producer husband after filing for divorce last week. In the court documents, the singer revealed details of their tempestuous relationship including claims of physical abuse and alleged demands for threesomes.
