Melissa Etheridge slams Angelina Jolie, says child abuse allegation against Brad Pitt is 'unfounded'
'I really hope that he reaches back out' says Etheridge on re-connecting with Brad Pitt.
Melissa Etheridge is clearly supporting Brad Pitt over Angelina Jolie in the couple's high-profile divorce. While appearing on the SiriusXM radio show Andy Cohen Live, Etheridge said she's heartbroken to hear all the news surrounding their split.
She told host Andy Cohen (via People Magazine): "It breaks my heart that anyone would take something as personal as your marriage and your relationship and your rights to your children and do it as purposefully as I see it's being done."
Etheridge, who went through her own custody battle with ex Tammy Lynn Michaels in 2010, criticised Jolie and her legal team for the way they are handling the divorce.
"There's a way to be. I've gone through family courts. I've been twice around this block, and I know it really well, and I know when there's some forethought to just how mean [you can be] and just how you're going to put disinformation out there first," the singer said.
Addressing allegations that Pitt was verbally abusive with his son, Etheridge, called them "completely unfounded" and "heartbreaking."
She also said that she would love to reconnect with Pitt. "I really hope that he reaches back out because there are a lot of us who haven't seen him in 10 years. And it was hard then. We all lost a friend," the Grammy winner said.
The I'm The Only One singer went on to share details about Jolie's marriage with ex-husband, Billy Bob Thornton. Referencing Jolie's whirlwind romance and eventual marriage to Thornton in 2000, Etheridge said, "I was around when Angelina was not doing nice things with Billy Bob to Laura Dern."
"I went through that on a personal level, and then to know the side of Jennifer [Aniston] and Brad..." she said. "I helped Laura move out of her house with Billy Bob – I like broke into their home to get their stuff out because it was so nasty."
