Manchester City's Micah Richards became an internet sensation after he missed a penalty against Olympiakos.

The 26-year-old kicked the ball so hard that his left leg almost flew up above his head.

Richards took to his Twitter account to apologise for his awful penalty miss.

Richards' landing position began to trend on the social networking website, and hilarious memes followed.

In one of the images, Richards is seen with WWE star Randy Orton, while another picture teased that his penalty landed on the moon.
