Mount Etna: Red-hot lava spurts into sky as volcano erupts again
Italy's volcano Mount Etna leapt into action on Sunday (6 December), shooting bright red lava into the night sky. The world's most active volcano, on the Mediterranean island, has been putting on an impressive display over the last few days. The volcano has been largely dormant for the last two years and the recent eruptions have brought many volcano "tourists" out to spend the night on the side of the mountain to watch the show.
Nearby Catania's airport has only just reopened after being closed during the first week of December due to ash clouds causing security concerns. Etna, at 3,330 metres, is the highest volcano in mainland Europe.
