Music's new power couple? Meek Mill compares his romance with Nicki Minaj to Beyonce and Jay Z
They pack on the PDA in his new song, All Eyes on You, but it looks like Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj are not only selling records, they are also trying to build an empire. The hip hop star has compared his relationship with Minaj to music's biggest power couple, Beyonce and Jay Z.
Speaking to Billboard about the criticism he has received for balancing his relationship with making music, the hip hop star said: "You can't be hard all the time, man. There's both sides to everything. What's wrong with it? Jay Z was a street rapper and he had a girlfriend."
Meek and Minaj began dating in December 2014 just a few months after the Starships rapper split from her long-time boyfriend, Scaff Beezy. They finally went public in February when Minaj shared a snap of her partner planting a kiss on her cheek. Although there was no caption, she looked very pleased with the gesture.
The 28-year-old, whose real name is Robert Rahmeek Williams, has already taken a leaf from frequent collaborators Queen B and her rapper husband, by heading into the studio with his special lady.
Aside from All Eyes On You, which features Chris Brown and is the third single to be released from Meek's number one album, Dreams Worth More Than Money, the lovebirds have so far recorded a total of five songs together over the years: Buy A Heart, Bad For You, Dope Dealer, Big Daddy and I Be On That.
Engagement rumours were sparked in April when Minaj shared a photo of a diamond band on her wedding finger. She uploaded a photo of her and her new beau captioned "Miami Nights" and wrote on social media: "I wish every night could feel like last night."
After eagle-eyes fans noticed the ring on her finger, the Pinkprint hitmaker sent her Barbs into a frenzy by posting a diamond ring emotion on Twitter, teasing "I'll post it later" before finally unveiling a heart-shaped rock on her wedding finger, worth an estimated $500,000 (£321,000).
Meek later denied the marriage rumours insisting he was not ready to walk down the aisle. "I ain't engaged," he told Fader magazine."It's definitely real, but ain't really time to get married yet. We're still learning each other, feeling each other out."
Meanwhile, Meek has fired back a diss track of his own almost a week after getting into an online spat with Drake for allegedly having a ghostwriter. Wanna Know was the comeback fans has been waiting for after Drake attempted to put Meek in his place by dropping Charged Up and Back To Back. Mill raps: "I just wanna know, if you ain't write that running through the six s**t, tell us who the f**k Quentin was running through the six with?"
