43rd NAACP Image Awards: 'The Help' Steals the Show [FULL WINNERS LIST]
Actresses Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis stole the show at the 43rd NAACP Image Awards presentation on Friday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is an African-American civil-rights organisation in the United States, and its awards night -- celebrating outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, films, writing and music) is the nation's premier event of its kind.
At the show, Spencer and Davis, stars of the film "The Help", who have both been nominated for Academy Awards, won awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress and Outstanding Actress, respectively, completed a trio of awards which included the Outstanding Motion Picture gong for their film.
The film "Jumping the Broom" also earned quite a number of awards, including Outstanding Director Award for Salim Akil.
The awards also honor those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.
