National Rifle Association gloats over Kim Kardashian stickup
Reality star feared rape in night-time attack say sources.
The US National Rifle Association couldn't help punishing reality star Kim Kardashian for her support for stricter gun control laws after armed men held her up in Paris.
Kardashian in June criticised the Senate for failing to bolster background checks on those purchasing guns. She tweeted about the issue in the wake of the shooting in Orlando, Florida, that killed 49 people.
Soon after Kardashian was tied up at gunpoint in her Paris residence by men dressed as police officers and robbed of millions of dollars worth of jewellery, the NRA issued a string of tweets mocking her for demanding tougher background checks for gun owners.
"Wait, criminals held Kim Kardashian at gunpoint in Paris?" the NRA asked, feigning a mocking surprise. "How is that possible? Does anyone know if they passed a background check first?"
Another one pretends outrage: "It's shocking that theses criminals did not subject themselves to Paris' strict gun control laws before committing this awful crime."
According to a 2015 study published in the American Journal of Public Health, a 1995 Connecticut law that made it more difficult to buy a gun in the state reduced gun homicides by as much as 40%.
The entire Kardashian clan has spoken out against gun violence.
According to new details about the robbery, Kardashian was reported lying in her bed in a robe in the second floor of the residence where she was staying in Paris when armed men charged up the stairs.
She rolled off her bed to call her bodyguard on her mobile phone, but one of the the men snatched it away, sources told TMZ.
Her hands were zip-tied and duct taped. When one of the men grabbed her ankle, she feared rape, she told French police, sources said.
Both ankles were duct-taped and she was put in the bathtub of her bathroom.
She started screaming and begging for her life, telling the robbers, who only spoke French, that she was the mother of two young children, the sources said.
One kept saying "ring, ring," and she knew he meant the ring Kanye had given her and she told them where to find it, TMZ reported.
A friend staying in the downstairs bedroom locked herself in a closet and called Kardashian's bodyguard.
