Nicholas Cage stoically posing in Kazakhstan's traditional attire is a meme dream
The actor was in Kazakhstan to attend the 13th Eurasia International Film Festival in the capital city of Astana.
Nicholas Cage is best known as the American action hero who helped bring down a group of plane hijackers in Con Air, saved the US Declaration of Independence by stealing it in National Treasure and even takes down a sociopathic domestic terrorist in Face Off alongside John Travolta.
But as of this weekend, The Rock actor also became the star of a hilarious series of memes.
Cage was in Kazakhstan to attend the 13th Eurasia International Film Festival in the capital city of Astana. During his visit he made an appearance at the Kazakh National University of Arts where he was gifted a velvet green shapan (national dress).
"Nicholas Cage was very pleased with the Kazakh shapan. He said that both the fabric and the colour are good. According to him, he can even act in a film [in it]," the president of the university, Aiman Mussakhojayeva, told Kazinform.
While the coat-style attire was dramatic, it was nothing in comparison to the one the Gone In Sixty Seconds actor wore during a meeting with Kazakhstan's First Lady Sara Nazarbayeva. While the wife of President Nursultan Nazarbayev opted for a white skirt-suit, the Oscar winner donned another traditional cloak called the Ton. Cage wore the gold embroidered outfit was with a brown fur hat to match the fur on the cloak's lapels.
What was almost as eye-catching as the Kazak costume was the 53-year-old actor's stoic expression as he posed for photos.
But wait... the 8mm actor was not the only Hollywood star at the festival. Adrien Brody also attended the event and donned a similar traditional cloak and according to the festival website, John Málkovich is also expected to make an appearance.
Once uploaded to the internet, Cage's photo immediately became fresh fodder for the meme farm. Check out some of funniest ones along with some hilarious tweets below:
