Nicki Minaj waxwork to be scrapped? Madame Tussauds denies plans to remove sexually suggestive figure
Madame Tussauds Las Vegas has dismissed reports that its controversial Nicki Minaj waxwork is to be removed from the iconic museum after being constantly violated by visitors. Multiple news outlets reported that complaints about the racy waxwork, which shows the Young Money rapper on all fours, prompted chiefs to get rid of the likeness.
"Nicki Minaj's wax figure has not been removed from Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. The set has merely been adjusted," spokesman Cole Kouvaris tells Billboard.com.
Since it's unveiling, male and female visitors have been taking photos of themselves in sexually-suggestive poses with the figurine, which takes inspiration from the video for her controversial hit Anaconda and shows her scantily clad, and posting them to social media. As a result of the continued harassment, the venue organised extra security for the waxwork.
At the time Madame Tussauds released a statement saying it was "aware of the inappropriate photograph taken" but that its attractions are "interactive, immersive experiences [and] our visitors are generally respectful towards the wax figures. We are taking immediate steps to ensure more staff are present in this area and that the set ... is redesigned so that a picture like this cannot be taken again."
Fellow hip hop star Azealia Banks had warned Madame Tussauds that taking inspiration from one of Minaj's raunchiest videos was not a good idea writing on Twitter: "Wow, they finally give nicki minaj a wax figure and it's a statue of her bent over on all fours...... White people yo" she told her 563K Twitter followers. "As much as that woman has accomplished, they had to put her on all fours... Why not standing up with a mic in her hand ???"
Minaj has yet to speak out about the alleged removal but Meek Mill's girlfriend appeared to give the statue her seal of approval and was delighted about becoming the latest celebrity to be immortalised.
"YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WTF?!?!?!?!??!?? Had no idea they were really doing this. I would've went to Vegas for this. #HappyBirthdayAnaconda," the 32-year-old star captioned a snap of her doppelganger. "I love it and I can't wait to see it".
