No More Parties: Did Kanye West snub Met Gala due to Kim Kardashian's 'cheap' beach pictures?
Rapper, 39, decided to stay at home in LA with his two children North and Saint.
It appears that there may be trouble in paradise after Kanye West snubbed the Met Gala due to his wife Kim Kardashian's embarrassing beach pictures last week.
The rapper, 39 – who is good friends with the event's chair Anna Wintour and a huge fashion advocate – was notably absent from the star-studded bash in New York City and chose to stay at home with his two children North, three, and Saint, one, in Los Angeles.
His 36-year-old wife, Kardashian, graced the white carpet alone – despite her sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner in attendance – wearing a simple off-shoulder white gown by Vivienne Westwood.
The Sun claims that West deliberately snubbed the glamorous event due to being angry over un-airbrushed photos of his wife frolicking on a beach in Mexico with a group of girlfriends, which 'broke' the internet last week.
West is a regular guest of the party – having attended alongside Kardashian for the past three years – but was mysteriously absent on the night. A friend told the newspaper that he is still fuming over the pictures featuring his wife's dimpled, out-of-proportion bottom in skimpy swimwear.
The source said: "Kanye has helped turned Kim into a fashion icon and he feels those pictures with Kourtney have made her look cheap, damaging her brand.
"He's angry with Kourtney for seemingly leading her on, as she clearly revelled in turning their session into a photoshoot. Their behaviour completely detracted from Kim's current standing in the industry," they added.
The insider claimed that West's no-show could affect his friendship with Vogue editor Wintour, adding: "It's a huge deal not to attend. Turning down an invite means he might not be asked back again. It also risks the wrath of Anna Wintour.
"But after the year he's had, given his breakdown after the Paris robbery and his anger over Kim's snaps, he just didn't feel attending the right thing to do."
Contrarily, another source told People Magazine that West's absence was simply due to wanting some time out from the limelight after being hospitalised for exhaustion last year.
They said: "It had nothing to do with the Met Gala. It was more about the stress and pressure of a big red carpet. He just wasn't quite there yet. Kanye has been doing okay. He's made a lot of good progress and is in a much better place.
"He's still very much enjoying his time off from public events. He'll be staying back in LA with their kids [North and Saint]. Everything is great with him and Kim and he's supportive of her going solo."
