Celebrities and fashion forward stars descended at NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art on 1 May to honour Comme Des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo during the annual Met Gala. In the history of fashion events, the Costume Institute's benefit is known to showcase some of the most outlandish costumes and outfits, and this year was no different.

From nearly naked to extreme layers, the range of eccentricity was vast at the much-anticipated red carpet event of the year.

And leading the bizarrely-dressed list on Monday was none other than singer Katy Perry – who co-chaired this year's fundraising event – in her all-red John Galliano ensemble.

The Barbadian beauty followed-up her 2015 furry-yellow look with an equally quizzical style at this year's Mat Gala. Keeping up with the Comme des Garçons' theme, Rihanna rocked a concoction outfit with explosive floral details straight off Kawakubo's Fall 2016 line.

Blake Lively

There was no lack of drama when Ryan Reynolds' better half stepped on the red carpet decked in a blue and gold Atelier Versace outfit. Exquisite feather details adorned the train of Lively's gold-chain dress while she kept her make-up minimal.

Kim Kardashian

Although reality star downplayed her outing, there was still ample show of skin in her off-the-shoulder white Vivienne Westwood dress. Channeling the 'peasant girl' look, Kardashian complemented her full-sleeved white dress with strappy sandals.

Kendall Jenner

Sister Kendall took the naked-dress style to another level on Monday as she strutted in a black thong and sheer dress. Designed by Julia Haart, the haute couture left little to imagination with just a patch covering the supermodel's modesty.

Priyanka Chopra

Quantico star was in her glamorous best at the 69<sup>th annual Met Gala in NYC. She let her Ralph Lauren trench coat evening gown do all the talking as she posed with her collars popped and luscious locks tied in a top-knot.
