Jane Lynch, host of the 42nd annual People's Choice Awards held on 6 January in Los Angeles, parodied the memorable Miss Universe gaffe during the show using a Miss Columbia look-alike. The real Miss Columbia, Ariadna Gutierrez, made headlines when she was mistakenly named Miss Universe by pageant host Steve Harvey, only to have the crown taken from her a few seconds later to be given to Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

Spoofing that embarrassing moment, Lynch announced a special People's Choice Award to a deserving entertainer who had yet to win one. She announced Thomas Lennon from The Odd Couple as the winner but then interrupted his acceptance speech to say he was actually the first runner-up before bringing the fake Gutierrez, model Tika Camaj, out on stage.

"I just read the card wrong," Lynch joked.

Another reference was made to the Miss Universe host at the awards as well. An unidentified man got on stage while hosts of The Talk were accepting their award for Favorite Daytime TV Hosting Team. Taking the mic from Sarah Gillbert, he said, "Shout out to Kevin Gates, he has an album," before referencing Kanye West, "Yeezy just jumped over the Jumpman... yessir."

Sheryl Underwood chased the man off the stage saying he wasn't going to "pull no Steve Harvey."
