Stars Pay Tribute to Pierce Brosnan's Daughter, Charlotte Emily
Celebrities across the world have paid their respects to Irish actor Pierce Brosnan, whose daughter, Charlotte Emily, died of ovarian cancer. The 60-year-old Brosnan, whose screen credits include the role of Ian Fleming's iconic British superspy James Bond, is doubly unfortunate, after losing his daughter to the same illness that killed his wife, Cassandra Harris.
Charlotte Emily was 41 when she died and is survived by her 15-year-old daughter Isabella, eight-year-old son Lucas, and long-time partner Alex Smith.
In a statement to People magazine, Brosnan said:
"On June 28 at 2pm my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean. Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences."
American model and actress Denise Richards, who starred as Christmas Jones in Brosnan's Bond adventure The World is Not Enough, tweeted: "My heart goes out to Pierce Brosnan & his family.. so devastating."
Olivia Munn, the 33-year-old actress and author who acted with Brosnan in I Don't Know How She Does It (also starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Greg Kinnear and Kelsey Grammer), also took to Twitter, saying: "My deepest condolences to Pierce Brosnan and his family for the loss of his daughter to ovarian cancer."
Robert Davi, who starred in the 1989 James Bond film Licence to Kill (with British actor Timothy Dalton in the lead), tweeted: "Just been informed - my friend Pierce Brosnan has lost his daughter to an illness - my prayers and love go out to him and his family."
Claire Cooper wrote on Twitter: "Such sad news for Pierce Brosnan & family ... My thoughts are with them."
Television presenter Eamonn Holmes said: "Terribly sad to read this morning about the death of actor Pierce Brosnan's daughter from Ovarian Cancer. Thoughts and prayers to the family. Pierce Brosnan has been the nicest, most friendly, accessible, down to earth movie star I have met. He's had more than his share of sadness."
