Police launch murder enquiry after boy, 5, dies during an incident in south-east London park
38-year-old man arrested after a boy suffered head injuries in an incident at Mountsfield Park, Catford.
Police have launched a murder investigation after a five-year-old boy died during an incident in a south-east London park.
The boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition after suffering head injuries following an "incident involving a man" in Mountsfield Park, Catford, on Sunday (20 November) Scotland Yard confirmed.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on Monday and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
The child died on Tuesday, and post-mortem tests were conducted on Thursday, BBC News reports.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Lynes said the force was appealing to find any witnesses who were in, or near to, Mountsfield Park, between 5.15 and 6.45 GMT on Sunday".
"[We are] keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything regarding an incident involving a man in the company of a child," he said.
The suspect has been remanded in custody and is due to next appear at Woolwich Crown Court on 20 December.
