The Duke of Edinburgh's grandchildren brought him some much-needed festive cheer on Sunday as he was recuperating from a heart procedure on Christmas night at Papworth Hospital.
This was the first time that Prince Philip had to miss the royal Christmas celebrations at the rural Sandringham estate in eastern England.
Following the Christmas church service and lunch, six of Prince Philip's grandchildren visited the hospital. This includes Prince William who came with Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall in a Range Rover.
In a second car, Prince Harry came along with Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice who are the daughters of the queen's second youngest son Prince Andrew.
Earlier, on Dec. 24, 2011, the Queen accompanied by Prince Edward arrived by helicopter to Papworth Hospital to visit Prince Phillip. Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also visited Prince Phillip on the same day.
Philip, 90, was taken to Papworth which is a specialist heart hospital on Friday night after he complained of chest pains. Doctors at the hospital determined the cause as a blocked coronary artery, following which a "minimally invasive procedure of coronary stenting" was done.
After the procedure, the Buckingham Palace officials announced that the Duke is in "good spirits and will remain in hospital under observation for a short period."
