Prison Break season 5: Mark Feuerstein cast as Scott Ness; no Sara and Michael romance?
Prison Break is coming back on Fox with season 5. Lead stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell have signed on to reprise their lead roles as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows in the nine-episode revival series.
But fans of Michael and Sara Tancredi romance may be disappointed as Royal Pains alum Mark Feuerstein has been cast in the recurring role of Scott Ness. According to Deadline, Feuerstein will play Sara's husband in the series.
Feuerstein's character is described as a professor of economics (Game Theory) at Cornell. "On the surface he is the rather anxious professor who is dubious of government, but proves he's got significant fight in him when up against it."
Actress Sarah Wayne Callies is in talks to return as Sara. Callies previously told Digital Spy: "Somebody approached me to talk about it. If they're going back, and the scripts are good, maybe we've got more stories to tell."
The season 4 finale of Prison Break ended with the death of Michael but Fox co-chariman/CEO Dana Walden confirmed that the revival will provide "a logical and believable explanation to why the characters are alive and still moving around the world".
Speaking about the plot, Walden shared: "I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up with the characters several years after we left them in the show. The brothers will be back."
Walden added that "some of the [other] iconic characters... will be back" but did not confirm any cast participation beyond leads Miller and Purcell.
The season 5 plot will be around international issues, as Michael and Lincoln will embark on a new quest with the action spanning the US and Yemen. Walden pointed out: "The story unravels on an international landscape — it's not a domestic [plot]. We open on a very international contemporary-feeling story."
The nine-episode event will start filming this spring and is expected to premiere sometime late in 2016 or early 2017.
