Overview

Nine-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal has been in good form over the past couple of months and continued the same in the first round beating Australian Sam Groth in straight sets in the first round. The Spaniard looked in impressive form, winning 89% of his first serve points and 86% of his second serve points.

After struggling for form and injuries over the past two years, Nadal looked like he was back to his best, and could be difficult to beat if he continues this way. The Spaniard will also want to finish the match quickly to conserve energy in what is a two-week grueling tournament.

His opponent, Bagnis, is a relative newcomer to the singles competition, making the second round of a Grand Slam only for the second time in his career. Known mostly as a doubles player, Bagnis recently cracked the top 100 of the tennis rankings and is not expected to trouble Nadal on Thursday.
