Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan Rivalry: SRK's 'Happy New Year' Breaks 'Kick' and 'Dhoom 3' Box Office Records
Shahrukh Khan has proved that he is the king of Bollywood and the box office with his blockbuster movie Happy New Year.
Despite receiving largely average reviews from critics, the Farah Khan-directed film has smashed the opening-day record of Salman Khan movie Kick and Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3.
Trade pundits have finally managed to quote a proper opening day figure – INR 45 crore (£4.57m) -- reports IndiaToday.com
According to Koimoi.com, Dhoom 3 earned INR 36 crore on opening day, while Kick yielded INR 35 crore on its own debut.
Shahrukh Khan, known to millions of Indian fans simply as SRK, has certainly set a high benchmark for opening day takings with Happy New Year's release. It will be interesting to see if Aamir Khan's PK, due out in December, will surpass this number to become the biggest opening day grosser.
Previously, Times of India speculated that Happy New Year could cross INR 40 crore on its first day, thereby creating history. So far, fans in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad have responded well to the film and it just may create new records.
