Music Minute: James Arthur battles Chainsmokers and Craig David releases Following My Intuition LP
IBTimes UK senior entertainment reporter Alicia Adejobi rounds up this week's music stories.
In this week's Music Minute, James Arthur battles Chainsmokers and Halsey, Craig David releases his long-awaited album, Following My Intuition, and The Weeknd debuts his new single.
James Arthur vs. Chainsmokers featuring Halsey
James Arthur was so close to chart-topping glory but he has narrowly missed out on claiming this week's top spot. The X Factor winner was expected to top the UK charts with his critically-acclaimed single, Say You Won't Let Go, but he debuted at number two just behind Chainsmokers and Halsey's unstoppable hit, Closer.
Arthur, 28, isn't down-hearted about his near-miss though as he told the Official Charts Company: "It's literally insane. It's such a whirlwind and I don't think it has actually sunk in yet. It has gone way beyond my expectations and I am so grateful that people have connected with the song."
Say You Won't Let Go will feature on Arthur's forthcoming second album, Back From The Edge, released on 4 November.
Craig David releases Following My Intuition
UK garage and r'n'b legend Craig David is finally releasing his long-awaited album, Following My Intuition. Six years after he last rocked the charts, David will drop the 14-track record on 30 September. The album will feature the recent singles When The Bassline Drops, One More Time and Ain't Giving Up and includes collaborations with Big Narstie and Sigala.
Following My Intuition will be David's first album since 2010's Signed Sealed Delivered before leaving the spotlight for a quieter life in Miami, Florida. Sharing the new direction of his music, David told BBC Breakfast in June: "I'm back in my Born To Do It lane where it was all about having fun with it and not taking it too seriously. Got the r'n'b and some garage in there – it's a UK record."
David, 35, will support the album release with his first UK arena tour in 15 years kicking off on 16 March in Cardiff.
The Weeknd is Starboy
Lastly, if you need to update your playlist then you'll want to listen to The Weeknd's brand new single. Starboy features electronic duo Daft Punk and is moody, melodic and simply epic. The track will appear on The Weeknd's new album, also titled Starboy, which is set for release on 25th November. The r'n'b crooner, real name Abel Tesfaye, also unveiled a brand new haircut which some speculate means a change of direction in his new material.
