Tottenham transfer news: Erik Lamela's agent confirms talks with Inter Milan over a move
Tottenham Hotspur forward Erik Lamela's father and agent has revealed the player is in talks with Inter Milan over a move. Erik's potential departure from Tottenham will be a massive blow for Spurs as one of their recent big signings could leave the club just after two years.
The Argentine international made a switch to White Hart Lane from AS Roma, for a fee which BBC reports to be around £25.7m ($40.3m). Since joining the north London side, the 23-year-old has failed to impress and struggled to settle at the club.
The Independent reports the Serie A club are interested in securing the services of Lamela. His agent and father Jose Lamela has confirmed his client will be open to a move to Italy in the ongoing summer transfer window.
"I can confirm that we are in talks with the Nerazzurri. Their interest in Erik is real. We are waiting for updates over these next few days. There is a willingness on our part to begin talks with the club," Jose told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Italian football is likely more suited to him and his characteristics. He settled well in Italy and had two great seasons with Roma. It would be a welcome option for us. He would like to return to Serie A. We will see what happens in these final days of the transfer window."
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino earlier confirmed the player is included in his plans for the 2015/16 season. However, it looks like the former Roma star will be heading to Inter before the window shuts on 1 September.
"I never speak about rumours, it is nothing to comment on. Lamela is part of my plans for the team. We need Lamela to show his real quality, and we hope that this is the season he really shows his quality," Pochettino explained.
"It's obviously we need to add some more in our offensive position," Pochettino said. "The chairman is working very hard to bring new players in this position but I am happy with my squad."
