Tottenham Lose Playmaker After Hamburg Deadline Deal
After losing Luka Modric, Tottenham set to lose Rafael van der Vaart as well
Rafael van der Vaart has sealed a move to Hamburg, after his agent has confirmed he had left Tottenham to undergo a medical at the German club.
Van der Vaart has spent two seasons at Spurs after his move away from the German club, and with his wife currently residing in the country as a TV presenter, a move appeared to be on the cards over the summer as the Dutchman looked to be closer to his family.
But Tottenham played hardball on the figure that Hamburg would pay for van der Vaart, and are believed to be close to agreeing an amount of around €13 million for the star.
"I can confirm that Rafael is on his way to Hamburg now for a medical," Van der Vaart's agent Robert Geerlings said, as reported by the Guardian.
"No fee has been agreed, but when a player goes for a medical it is clear that the two parties intend to find a solution."
The club will have been looking to register the player are quickly as possible, in time to play in the Bundesliga fixtures this weekend.
And if Tottenham are able to confirm a fee for van der Vaart, they will have a particularly large transfer kitty going into the final 12 hours of deadline day.
The sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid, believed to be around £33 million, will leave the club with a great deal of cash as they look to make some serious waves in the midfield department.
