Transformers 5: Director Michael Bay reveals the film's villain
Transformers: The Last Knight will see the return of Megatron, who in the three chapters of the franchise was the main antagonist. Director Michael Bay has teased a video of Megatron, confirming the character's return.
At the first glimpse it is difficult to make out if it really is Megatron as the character has a new meaner look. Bay shared the video on Instagram along with the caption: "michaelbayIt's starting. This week production. Megatron is back. #transformers #decepticons#."
The video does not confirm whether Megatron is the main villain or not but with the meaner look it does suggest that the robot could be a handful for the autobots. Megatron was the main villain when the franchise kicked off with its first movie in 2007.
The cast of the movie includes Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager, Josh Duhamel as Lieutenant Colonel Lennox and Isabela Moner as Izabella among others. Jerrod Carmichael has also been confirmed for an unspecified leading role.
Megatron, the leader of the villainous Decepticons, is a sentient robotic lifeform from the fictional planet of Cybertron. He is also the arch-enemy of Autobot leader Optimus Prime.
The movie script has been penned by Art Marcum Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan. Producers of the sequel are Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto.
The movie opens in theatres in the US on 23 June 2017, following which a Bumblebee spin-off film is marked for 2018 and Transformers 6 for 2019.
