UCC shooting: Politics and gun control laws in debate over Twitter

In the aftermath of the tragic shooting at the Umpqua Community College in the US state of Oregon on 1 October, several politicians and celebrities have shared their reaction on Twitter condemning the politics of gun control laws in the US. Nearly 20 injured victims are receiving treatment in hospital and up to 13 are confirmed dead so far, as the death toll continues to rise.
Following the news, a fire official tweeted: "Active shooter at UCC. Please stay away from the area". The tweet emerged after authorities were called on the scene around 10:30am local time (18:30 BST). Calls to bring an end to 'gun violence' in the US was the most common theme amongst Twitter users.
To politicians who say "Now is not the time to talk gun laws" after mass shootings: SHAME ON YOU. Your silence = more deaths #UCCShooting

How many more times will we allow gun violence to tear apart our communities before we come together and change our laws? #UCCShooting

Today we send thoughts & prayers to #UCCShooting victims & families. Tmrw we must find a way - regardless of politics - to end the violence.
