The Vampire Diaries season 7 cast update: Lily will return to Mystic Falls for a major storyline
The Vampire Diaries season 7 may bring a major storyline involving Lily Salvatore when the CW supernatural series premieres in fall this year.
The Wrap reported that Annie Wersching, who plays the notorious character, will return as a recurring cast for Julie Plec's show.
In season 6, the mother of Damon and Stefan reunited with her 'family', a herd of super humans who possess the powers of both vampires and witches.
The vampire mother is responsible for bringing to Mystic Falls her ever-hungry friends who devastate the town in the upcoming season.
Kai, who was left to die in the prison world of 1903, made a fatal return in the season 6 finale of TVD. He killed Jo, who was pregnant, just before she could say "I Do" to Alaric on their wedding day.
The wicked witch also cursed Elena Gilbert with his magic spell which caused her to slip into a deep slumber. The only way to wake her up is to kill Bonnie.
The upcoming season will feature the aftermath of Elena's exit and this may not be good news for Damon fans.
The elder Salvatore brother is heart-broken at the tragic event that snatched the love of his life from him for at least 60 years. This may also bring a dramatic change in his character and he will turn into the big bad villain he was in season 1, all over again.
The younger Salvatore brother, however, might play a key role in controlling his brother and helping him overcome his melancholy.
Stefan may also become the hero of TVD season 7 in trying to eliminate Lily's family, the unwanted and blood-sucking vampires, from the soil of Mystic Falls.
"I'm really excited to see Stefan come into his own and he'll really take to the role of a hero, which will be really cool," show producer Caroline Dries told E Online. "He's always been a hero but I think in a broader sense he'll become more heroic next season."
CW is yet to release a premiere date for The Vampire Diaries season 7 but the series is expected to return during fall this year.
