What YouTube star KSI had to say about Kim Kardashian's Paris gunpoint robbery
Online sensation says one pitfall of fame is the constant scrutiny.
YouTube sensation KSI is confident Kim Kardashian can overcome the scrutiny she has faced in the wake of her gunpoint robbery because she has a thick skin. Speaking to IBTimes UK, during the promotion run for his new single Jump Around, the-23-year-old admitted that the one of the many pitfalls of fame is that many people cannot relate so choose to criticise or make light of your misfortune.
"People are always going to say stuff− I mean its Kim Kardashian. I'm sure she knows how to deal with it. I think she's sueing. I don't think people will ever relate, that's just how it is," he said.
"I completely get where she is coming from with everything. I can relate to her. It's just the way the cookie crumbles I'm afraid. It's just how it is now."
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was in a bedroom at a luxury apartment in the French capital when up to several masked men reportedly stormed their way into and bound and gagged in the early hours of 3 October with the thieves making off with jewellery said to be worth up to $11m (£8.6m), including her Lorraine Schwartz-designed engagement ring.
A host of celebrities rushed to the reality star's defence after she was targeted by trolls who made light of her potentially life-threatening situation, with many referencing her sex tape past or accusing her of flaunting her immense wealth. Having grown up in the public eye thanks to his own flourishing online career, KSI – real name is Olajide "JJ" Olatunji – says he can relate to the mother-of-two Kardashian.
The Watford-born vlogger, whose channel is Britain's second-most subscribed – he is the UK's number 1 vlogger – said: "Believe it or not I used to be a normal guy. Just a normal dude going to school every day and then this YouTube thing happened and it gotten bigger and bigger. It got to a point I was like 'oh crap, look at all these eyes on me'.
When he decided to splash out on a penthouse in Stratford, London, some of his almost 15 million subscribers would frequently find their way to his door with the hope of getting a photo. "I got chucked into this celebrity status area and now people don't treat me like a normal person so I mean it is what it is. I think when they can't' relate they will just poke fun or have a go."
Kardashian has yet to break her silence and is believed to be keeping a low profile at her Los Angeles home where she lives with husband Kanye West and their two children, three-year-old daughter North and 10-month-old son Saint. The reality star is reportedly taking legal action against a gossip publication over claims she faked the gunpoint robbery in Paris.
