Wimbledon 2014 Day Six Review: Serena Williams Crashes Out After Third Round Defeat
Day six of Wimbeldon produced the biggets shock of the competiton so far as Serena Williams crashed out following a third round defeat to 24th ranked Alize Cornet.
The five time champion has failed to recitfy her second round elimination at the French Open last month after suffering a 6-1 3-6 4-6 defeat to her 24-year-old opponent.
It is the world no. 1's earliest defeat at SW19 since 2005.
"She kept her unforced errors really low," Williams said after her defeat. "I think I made a few errors too many. She was going for her shots. She played really well today."
Meanwhile Rafael Nadal fought back after losing his first set to beat Kazakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin on Centre Court. The Spaniard came thorugh 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 6-1 6-1 to seal his place in the fourth round where he will meet Australian teenage wildcard Nick Kyrgios.
Seven time champion Roger Federer eased his way into the fourth round, beating Santiago Giraldo of Colombia 6-3 6-1 6-3. He will meet 15th seed Jerzy Janowicz of Poland or Spain's Tommy Robredo on Monday.
Fourth seed Maria Sharapova also cruised into the fourth round following her 6-3 6-0 win over American Alison Riske.
