Fun and Frolic to Mark World Down Syndrome Day
People across the globe are observing 21 March as the World Down Syndrome Day by joining hands with children and adults who are suffering with the disease.
Though the Down Syndrome International is observing the 7th anniversary of the day, the United Nations has officially recognised it as the World Down Syndrome Day for the first time in 2012.
Down Syndrome International has come up with several events to raise public awareness about the disease. The events will be held at the Dubai Mall in UAE from 21- 23 March.
Several fun filled events like face painting and balloon bending are being held by the organisation to raise awareness about Down Syndrome

Down syndrome is a genetic condition in which a person has 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46.
It occurs when there is an extra copy of chromosome 21 and this form of Down Syndrome is called Trisomy 21.
Down syndrome affects the child both mentally and physically. Children with Down Syndrome have low intelligence, their IQ will be around 50 compared to normal children with an IQ of 100. It is estimated at 1 per 733 births.
"The World Down Syndrome Day celebration is the best way for the community to learn, understand, come together and demonstrate their unconditional support. This is the main reason why we wish to ensure this is the UAE's biggest and best World Down Syndrome Day yet," Khaleej Times has quoted Khawla Kabanji, CEO of ZAJEL, who is the main sponsor for this event as saying.
