WWE: Shawn Michaels tells AJ Styles why a return fight with The Phenomenal One does not make sense
Styles made his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble in 2016.
WWE Universe has been intensely speculating about a fight between Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles ever since The Phenomenal One made his debut at the Royal Rumble in 2016.
The speculation over Michaels' return fight gained momentum when Goldberg made a comeback from a 12-year hiatus and faced Brock Lesnar.
The Heartbreak Kid and Styles have shown their interest in facing one another in the squared circle but the chances of that happening is pretty slim as the WWE Hall of Famer has pointed out that there is not a single storyline that makes any sense for him to return to the ring as he "went out on top".
"Who wins? From a business standpoint, what do you do? Old [mentality] doesn't do anything but hurt [AJ]... Clearly if you [beat] me, it doesn't do anything spectacular, and all of that. Then it's like, if you're gonna come back and do something, why would I do that and lose the last 3 or 4 or 5 [matches] in a row, or whatever it was. So, I just saying, creatively, that's sort of anticlimactic as well," Michaels said when Styles asked if the former would consider a fight with the latter on the latest episode of Table for 3 on the WWE Network.
The former wrestler also added that because of "the way the Heartbreak Kid's career ended, and the way it started with the broken glass" a return fight with Styles was out of the question.
Styles agreed with Michaels and said for the latter it makes no sense coming back after going out on top with a fight against The Undertaker in a Streak vs Career Match at WrestleMania 26.
