Sting finally made his long-awaited debut in the WWE at the promotion's Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV).
The veteran wrestler featured in a vignette on WWE's Raw programme to promote the company's WWE 2K15 video game in July.
Speculation has been rife since then as to when the 55-year-old would make his in-ring return.
Those questions were answered when Sting appeared in his Black Scorpion ring attire and interfered in the main event bout between Team Cena and Team Authority.
He attacked Team Authority leader and WWE chief operating officer Triple H and cost the King of Kings' faction the match.
The former World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Total Non-Stop ActionTNA Wrestling (TNA) star sent the internet wild as he trended on social media site Twitter.
