Grammys 2016 review: Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran win big
In this week's Music Minute we take a closer look at the Grammys 2016, where Taylor Swift, Adele and Lady Gaga all made headlines at the star-studded music industry awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
It was a very successful night for Taylor Swift, who walked away the winner of three awards. The pop star became the first female artist to win album of the year twice after triumphing with her 2014 record 1989. Using her acceptance speech to hit out at Kanye West's claim he made her famous, Taylor said people should stop trying to take credit for her accomplishments.
Kendrick Lamar also has plenty to be pleased about as the rapper won five awards, including best rap album for To Pimp A Butterfly and best rap performance for his single Alright. Elsewhere, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson took home the biggest award of the night, winning record of the year for Uptown Fun,k while Ed Sheeran impressively scooped two awards for Thinking Out Loud – including song of the year.
It wasn't smooth-sailing for everyone though. Rihanna was expected to perform but cancelled last minute due to illness, while Lauryn Hill pulled out of her duet with The Weeknd. And poor Adele. The singer's performance of her ballad All I Ask was mired in technical issues, causing the sound to momentarily cut out.
