Harry Styles reached out to Perrie Edwards after Zayn Malik called off engagement with Little Mix singer

Harry Styles reportedly reached out to Perrie Edwards after former One Direction star Zayn Malik called off his engagement with the Little Mix singer.

According to the Daily Star, Taylor Swift's former boyfriend felt pity for Edwards after "recalling a difficult break-up of his own."

"It's something Harry really understands from having his heart broken by his first girlfriend when he was 14," a source said.

"His heart immediately went out to Perrie and he called her up straight away. He's very spontaneous that way. It meant a lot to her," the insider added.

Malik and Edwards started dating in December 2011 after meeting on the set of The X Factor. The couple who got engaged in August 2013, were reportedly planning to get married at Disneyland Paris in June.

After five years with the group, Malik announced he is quitting the British boy band in March.

One Direction fans had blamed Edwards for the 22-year-old singer's decision to quit the boy band.

"She always felt she and Zayn could get through anything. They were a part of each other's families," the source continued. "Being dumped without any warning other than Zayn becoming fairly distant and secretive in recent months has bowled her over."

In an interview with E!, Edwards was asked how she is doing after the split, to which she replied: "I'm good, thank you."
