Lady Gaga and fiance Taylor Kinney take part in Chicago Polar Plunge for charity
Lady Gaga and her fiancé Taylor Kinney took part in the Chicago Polar Plunge on 6 March. This was the second time the two participated in the annual event which is held to raise money for Special Olympics Chicago.
Gaga and Kinney joined host Al Roker, the cast of Chicago Med and Chicago PD, and 6,000 other participants as they took a chilly dip in Lake Michigan. Blind Side actor Quinton Aaron also participated in the plunge. The air temperature that day was 40 degrees F (4.4 degrees C), fairly warm for a Chicago winter day. In previous years, ice had to be broken down to allow participants to take the cold dip.
"We love the city of Chicago and the Polar Plunge for The Special Olympics," Gaga wrote on Instagram. "These men and women are brave and powerful. Me and Taylor love getting cold in your honour every year."
According to a spokeswoman, about $1.5m (£1.06m) was raised which will be used by Special Olympics Chicago to sustain its athletic programmes and reach even more sportspeople in Chicago.
After drying off, the Poker Face singer and her actor boyfriend attended the Blackhawks versus Red Wings ice hockey game and were even caught on the United Center's Kiss Cam.
Gaga and Kinney got engaged on Valentine's Day 2015 and the singer later showed off her heart-shaped diamond engagement ring on Instagram.
