Lea Michele and Matthew Paetz split: Scream Queens star 'blindsided'

Former Glee star Lea Michele and boyfriend Matthew Paetz have split. The couple parted ways after dating for two years.

Paetz was the 29-year-old Scream Queens actress' first serious relationship since the sudden death of her Glee co-star and boyfriend Cory Monteith in 2013. Monteith, who played heartthrob Finn Hudson in the hit Fox television series, was found dead in a room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, Canada. An autopsy revealed that he died of "mixed drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol".

A source told Hollywood Life: "Lea did not see her split with Matthew coming at all. She thought he was very happy and as far she knew there were no problems between them. To say she was blindsided by their break-up is an understatement. She was hoping for a proposal, and was sure that he was the one. She's been keeping a low-profile since, and has been very down about it."

Michele and Paetz first met on the set of her music video for On My Way in April 2014. They started dating officially by June.

"Lea is surrounded by her friends, who have rallied around her and support her," an insider told People. "She's doing fine, focusing on her work, her music and her album."

Michele had recently revealed that she believes Monteith would have approved of Paetz . Speaking in a Fempire Podcast release in January, she said: "At the end of the day, this industry is really tough, and the only way to get through is to create a solid unit, and that's really what we've been since day one. We've stood by each other through anything that was thrown our way. [Matt] is a such a great man that he would never really let anything like that ever crack our lovely little core that we've created."

"He is very respectful towards the person that I was with, and that, again, is something I love so much about him. I really know that Cory would love him too," she added.
