Lego launches Yellow Submarine set with The Beatles mini-figures
Amateur musician Kevin Szeto offered the toy company the idea as a 'tribute to The Beatles phenomenon'.
This November, Beatles fans will be lining up to get their hands of Lego's newest set of bricks featuring the iconic Yellow Submarine and four mini-figures of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
The toy company shared photos of their 550-piece new set based on the iconic 1968 animated musical fantasy film inspired by The Beatles and announced that it will be available for purchase from 1 November for £49.99 ($60).
The idea for the kit was pitched by amateur musician Kevin Szeto to the Lego ideas section as a tribute to the legendary music group. "As an amateur musician and songwriter, I have always been drawn to the music of The Beatles. The creation of the Yellow Submarine model was really my way of showing my affection for The Beatles, as well as trying to pay a small tribute to The Beatles phenomenon," Szeto said. "The Yellow Submarine is bright, fun, and colourful, which also made it a good subject to translate into Lego form."
Toy designer Justin Ramsden who worked on the set also expressed his excitement to fine tune the design. "I watched the film when I was younger and was really inspired by how it oozed so much imagination," he explained. "I'm also a massive fan of The Beatles having grown up with their music all my life so to see The Beatles in Lego form is a dream come true."
The kit also includes a mini figure of Jeremy Hillary Boob – a fictional character from the film voiced by Dick Emery.
