Life after One Direction: Harry Styles to make acting debut in Absolutely Fabulous film?
One Direction recently announced that they will be taking a hiatus after five years to work on solo projects and it looks like Harry Styles has already landed his first job. The Sun reports that the 21-year-old singer is preparing to make his acting debut in the forthcoming Absolutely Fabulous film.
"Jennifer has told friends she wants Harry to be part of the movie. She's got some great cameos in the bag already, but wants to give the film a young, hipster edge," a source told the publication. "If she can find a way to work him into the script, then Patsy could have a new bit of totty to chase."
News of his possible involvement comes months after reports that he was being courted by Hollywood with producer Harvey Weinstein hailing his "star potential". He is said to have previously turned down an acting role because it interfered with his 1D commitments.
"There's no question he will enter the movie business. I get from him that he wants to," Weinstein told The Sun."When you meet him, he's super-charismatic. He came to our Oscars party last year and then I went out to lunch with him. I've met him two or three times and he was very interested and charming. I think the guy is a movie star."
He added: "He doesn't even have to audition for me. We offered him a part and he couldn't do the movie because he had the tour. The amount of money their tour did is crazy, so he's got obligations."
The award-winning BBC comedy series followed the boozy lives of characters Eddie Monsoon – played by the show's writer Saunders – and Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) who worked in fashion and PR. It ran for five series over two decades.
In August, Saunders confirmed that Kate Moss would be making a cameo in the big-screen adaptation telling the Daily Mirror that the casting was "a no-brainer". "She's a big fan of the show and we're pals, so aside from the fact she's the definitive model, it was a no-brainer. There'll also be a bit of Spice with Emma Bunton and Lulu. I've only just got the green light so I'm tweaking the script and I'm trying not to over-egg it."
Sources close to the project have revealed that Victoria Beckham is also tipped to make a cameo and Saunders' Ab Fab co-creator and writing partner Dawn French is also set to make an appearance in the film. Filming is expected to start during London Fashion Week with the film hitting cinemas in 2016.
