Rebekah Vardy angers Leicester City fans after claiming Jamie 'plays for England' on I'm A Celeb
Vardy's airbrushing of Leicester City out of the picture caused consternation among viewers.
Rebekah Vardy's debut on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! sparked a mixed reaction from viewers, with many football fans voicing their opinion on how she introduced herself to Boris Johnson's dad Stanley.
The 35-year-old WAG is the wife of Leicester City football player Jamie Vardy, but when explaining why she was famous to the retired politician, 77, she said that her husband "plays for England".
Her description confused Johnson, resulting in him thinking she was referring to cricket, and it did not go down too well with the viewing public at home.
Leicester City fans were not shy about expressing their dissatisfaction with the awkward exchange on social media, with one person tweeting: "#ImACeleb rebekah vardy already ashamed to say wife of Leicester city player so says England instead snob".
Someone else said: "Can someone remind @RebekahVardy that not only does her husband play for England but he also plays for Leicester City, she seems to have forgotten #ImACeleb".
A third added: "Rebekah Vardy saying 'Jamie Vardy-England footballer'. Leicester not good enough for you hun?"
Another viewer asked: "Is Rebekah Vardy ashamed of her husband playing for Leicester as she referred to him as an England footballer?! #ImACeleb".
Vardy made quite the impression on the first episode of the new series, which saw Ant McPartlin reprise his role alongside Declan Donnelly following a tumultuous year of rehab and marital problems.
Viewers accused Vardy, who shares five children — the couple have children from ex-spouses — with her husband, of flirting with former England player Dennis Wise during a meal on last night's show. She asked him if he was "feisty" as viewers feared she may cheat on the Leicester City player.
Wise told her: "I like to play to win, I played every game to win, I'm sure you do."
Vardy replied: "Definitely".
One fan tweeted thereafter: "Rebekah vardy [sic] and Dennis wise [sic] making memories bet Jamie loves it eh aww LOOOL".
Vardy has a history of dating footballers, previously telling ex-boyfriend and former lower league star Luke Foster that she had "upgraded" by starting a romance with £80,000-a-week player Jamie.
She later summed up Wise to the cameras: "My first impression of Dennis is he is not going to be a pushover but he's also up for a challenge and I can depend on him."
I'm A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
