Stephen King's The Dark Tower: TV series production update and director zeroed in for film adaptation
Looks like a live-action adaptation of Stephen King's popular book series - The Dark Tower is finally gaining momentum after being work-in-progress for a long time.
Studios have been trying to turn Stephen King's epic The Dark Tower series into either films or a TV series for years, but seems like the wait is over as Deadline reports that director Nikolaj Arcel (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) has been roped in to direct the first film which will kickoff the potential movie franchise.
The website also reveals that a complementary TV series based on the books is also being developed by Media Rights Capital (MRC). "Producing are Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins. King is also a producer. That quartet has been involved in this franchise since the beginning, and MRC kept it going when it was between studios," states the Deadline report.
What is The Dark Tower all about?
The Dark Tower incorporates themes from multiple genres, including fantasy, science fantasy, horror, and Western. The books are also influenced by Arthurian legend and JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
The series follows the journey of Roland Deschain, the last of a knightly order called The Gunslingers, on a quest to find the Dark Tower, which is said to be the centre of all universes. As the series opens, Roland's motives, goals and age are unclear, though later instalments shed light on these mysteries.
