Twitter trolls Priyanka Chopra's Met Gala look: 'True adventure enthusiast. Moves around with a tent'

Paying a tribute to this year's honouree – Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo – Quantico's leading star, Priyanka Chopra cut a dynamic figure at the 69th annual Met Gala in New York. The Indian actress put her stylish foot forward in the world's longest trench coat evening gown by Ralph Lauren at the fundraising event on Monday (1 May).

While Hollywood and her critics in the west were impressed with her sartorial choices, Chopra might have failed to strike a chord with her Indian fans. Neither the stylishly popped collar nor the massive train of her beige coat-dress could help the 34-year-old as she was trolled by millions of her Indian followers on Twitter.

Fans alluded to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan – the clean India movement – launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as they joked about Chopra's style.

"Humble contribution towards swachh bharat," a Twitter user mocked alluding to the latest clean India campaign.

"True adventure enthusiast. Moves around with a tent," another fan joked.

Sharing a picture from the NYC red carpet that showed Chopra posing for the paparazzi while a person helped her with the train, a fan commented, "BREAKING : Priyanka Chopra has been announced as the new ambassador for Swacch Bharat Abhiyan for cleaning the streets in an innovative way."

The slew of hilarious to sarcastic comments continued as the Twitterverse devised newer means to troll the global star for her latest outing.

A fan shared, "If Mahatma Gandhi were alive he would have slapped Priyanka Chopra very hard.for wearing a dress that he could make 1126 dhotis from (sic)."

"Twitter having a field day over Priyanka Chopra's draupadi dress," another wrote noting the funny fan-reactions on social media.

"RT If you think "Priyanka Chopra" should be named as Brand ambassador of KHADI GRAM UDYOG.

"This IPL season, guard the pitch from unpredictable summer showers. Product comes with an attached rain coat! #PriyankaChopra #MetGala," another user joked.

Few commentators, however, came to Chopra's rescue.

"Trench coats are basic af but Priyanka Chopra killed it thanks for Ralph Lauren, also I love that her main accessory is a Jonas brother," one tweeter shared. "The one person who could pull of a chic inspector gadget is @priyankachopra and I am here for it #MetGala," wrote another.
