WWE's original plans for Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar fight at Survivor Series revealed
Goldberg is set to fight in the 30-man over-the-top-rope elimination match at Royal Rumble on 29 January 2017.
Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar in under 90 seconds at Survivor Series on 20 November, but reports suggest that the wrestling entertainment company had initially planned something different for the fight.
The last time the two superstars fought was in 2004 at WrestleMaina 20, the former WCW and WWE champion Goldberg was victorious. This time around, the WWE reportedly wanted the Beast Incarnate to get his revenge on the 49-year-old wrestler, but this was changed a week before the event.
According to reports, Goldberg first signed a one-match deal with the WWE and the plan was for the wrestler to lose the rematch against Lesnar. Moreover, the WWE's original plan was to build the Goldberg vs Lesnar match as a real fight which included Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) manoeuvres.
But after he signed the deal a week or so before Survivor Series, the initial plan was replaced and Goldberg emerged victorious in the fight.
Goldberg is set to fight in the a 30-man over-the-top-rope elimination Royal Rumble match, which is scheduled to take place at Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on 29 January 2017. Lesnar is also booked for the pay-per-view event, but whether he will be included in the 30-man line-up or another fight is yet to be revealed.
According to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, Lesnar could interfere in the Royal Rumble match and get Goldberg eliminated. From there, WWE could build a fight between the two at WrestleMania 33, to boost falling ratings of the entertainment company. WrestleMania 33 is scheduled for 2 April 2017.
