There is some good news for owners of Xperia Z1 Compact (codenamed amami), as the industrious CyanogenMod team has just released the official CyanogenMod 12 Nightly build based on custom Android 5.0.2 Lollipop ROM for the handset.

As the CM12 Nightly ROM is still under development, it may harbour a few untested bugs or broken features which are likely to be fixed with the forthcoming release of CM12 Snapshot builds for Lollipop ROM.

Interested users can go ahead and install the CM12 nightly ROM on their device via any custom recovery tool such as CWM or TWRP recovery, using the step-by-step guide provided below.

IBTimes UK reminds readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to device during or after the firmware installation. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk.

Pre-requisites

  • The instructions provided in this guide are limited to the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (aka amami) handset and will not work with any other model. Verify your device model from Settings > About Phone.
  • Ensure your device has at least 80% battery charge to avoid inadvertent shutdown during the installation process.
  • Make sure the correct USB drivers (download here) are installed for the device on the computer.
  • Enable USB debugging on your phone from Settings > Developer Options.

Google Apps: Repeat the previous step to install Gapps on your phone.

Step 11 - Once the installation is over, go to "+++++Go Back+++++" and reboot the phone by selecting reboot system now from the recovery menu as show below.

Your Xperia Z1 Compact will reboot and it might take about five minutes for the first boot to complete. So, please do not interrupt the process.
