Met Gala 2016: Zayn Malik is Gigi Hadid's knight in shining armour

After dating for nearly six months, it's safe to say that Zayn Malik considers himself to be Gigi Hadid's knight in shining armour. The former One Direction singer channelled his inner Sir Lancelot when he escorted her to the 2016 Met Gala in a black suit with plate armour sleeves.

Hadid was at her glamorous best in a custom-made gown by Tommy Hilfiger that featured a heavily embellished bodysuit and necklace combined with a sheer, gun-metal coloured skirt. She completed the look with a matching choker and her hair slicked back in a ponytail.

The pair solidified their status as tinsel town's latest 'it' couple by putting on an amorous display in front of the cameras at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They even shared a tender moment when the blonde beauty stroked PillowTalk hitmaker's face.

The likes of Beyoncé, Emma Watson and 'Kimye' walked the red carpet at the annual event, which is one of the biggest dates on the social and fashion calendar. They all fully embraced this year's theme of Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, so it wasn't surprising that there were lots of metallics on show as stars attempted to look as futuristic as possible.

Hours later, Malik and Hadid proved that they were very much in sync by posting a selfie later in the evening wearing matching leather jackets. The image captioned: "After party in da kitchen (sic)" showed the Victoria's Secret model enjoying a snack, while her other half gave a smouldering pose.

Back in April, a source said that the couple are already talking marriage, telling Hollywood Life: "They were seated at a private table tucked away in the back [of Manhattan's Butter restaurant]. Honestly, it didn't look like anything special was going on, that is, until Gigi practically jumped out of her seat and yelled: 'Yes!' They even got a round of applause from some other diners!"

But days ago Hadid's ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas dampened their romance by hinting that she may have been seeing Malik before they split in November. The 26-year-old American singer said: "I think it's interesting that she moved on so quickly, I mean it was definitely very quick."
